Proteaceae
Together with our Members, we have been cultivating potted proteas since 2000, gradually developing one of the widest and most recognisable collections in Europe.
Today, the range includes over 200 varieties and features genera such as Protea, Leucospermum, Leucadendron, Telopea, Banksia, Grevillea, and Serruria, selected for their aesthetic qualities, adaptability, and production performance.
Origin and characteristics
Proteas are plants native to the Southern Hemisphere, with a strong concentration in South Africa. They stand out for their variety of shapes, colours, and structures, making them immediately recognisable.
The name “Protea” was introduced by Linnaeus in the 18th century, inspired by the mythological figure Proteus, who could change his form. A fitting choice that perfectly reflects the nature of these plants, which vary greatly in growth habit and flowering.
Proteas: a distinctive collection
Over time, we have built a structured collection that combines iconic varieties with more distinctive selections. The different species allow for work with a wide range of shapes, volumes, and textures, making proteas a distinctive presence both as potted plants and as cut flowers.
Among the main genera cultivated:
Protea
Leucospermum

Production and quality
Cultivation is developed together with our Members, following an approach focused on quality and production continuity.
For over 25 years, proteas have represented a distinctive element of the Flora Toscana offering, with varieties grown in pots and, in many cases, distributed exclusively for the European market.
The entire production chain is GlobalG.A.P. certified, ensuring high standards and constant control across all stages.
A recognisable offering
Proteas are not a passing crop.
They are a deliberate choice, built over time.
For this reason, they now represent one of the most distinctive collections of Flora Toscana, combining variety, quality, and continuity in a solid and recognisable offering.
