WHAT IS PLA?

The bag of the purchased product is made of PLA.

In the perspective of sustainable packaging, Flora Toscana wanted to give a sign by introducing PLA bags in compliance with the UNI EN 13432:2002 Law. These bags possess water-ink printing to be destined to the packaging of the 5 principal references of cut flowers, which cover 60% of the entire amount of cut flowers.

PLA (Polylactic Acid) is a bioplastic derived from the transformation of sugars present in corn, beetroot, cane sugar and other natural renewable materials without resorting to petrol as it happens with the traditional plastic bag.

PLA is biodegradable and compostable, so it consumes itself once it reaches the necessary temperature and humidity conditions. It has characteristics similar to polyester and PET, with excellent resistance features. Its main characteristic is its compostability, the rapid consumption. In a short period of time (around 50 days) this bioplastic can be transformed into topsoil and fertilisers.

The material is certified for composting according to EN13432 Din Certco. Compostable materials are biodegradable, withing the standards established in EN13432, the present European law describes the period (3 months), the conditions (composting industrial plant) .

Products conformed to the EN13432 law possess the small plant logo.

Attention: it is advisable to always check the modality of waste collection with your local municipality or with the firm in charge of the waste disposal.
