Project summary
The P.I.D. of the interprovincial floriculture and nursery district of Pistoia and Lucca originates from the need to equip the extensive district area, which covers 20 municipalities across 2 provinces, with a total of 46,581 hectares of cultivated land and 1,707 employees, with a structure that promotes the enhancement and marketing of flowers and plants produced by floriculture and nursery businesses within the district. In summary, actions are envisaged to innovate and upgrade company assets, alongside interventions by businesses aimed at improving efficiency and energy savings, as well as the use of renewable energy sources.
Objectives
The objectives of the P.I.D. are essentially aimed at removing obstacles to technological and commercial development and at fostering the progressive consolidation of activities, not only in floriculture and nursery production, located within the district area. In practice, the project actions, and therefore the investments envisaged by the P.I.D., move in two directions:
– at company level, interventions are aimed at innovating and upgrading business assets and enabling the use of renewable energy sources, increasing competitiveness, safety, efficiency and environmental sustainability of floriculture and nursery activities;
– at district level, by creating a commercial and service structure aimed at supporting a process of enhancement not only of floriculture production but also of nursery production, reducing their environmental impact, presenting suitable offers on the market to meet foreign and large-scale retail demand, and encouraging the planning of floriculture and nursery production.
Complementing the above objectives will be investments aimed at developing: product traceability, enhancement of native Tuscan varieties, circular economy practices, recovery of plant containers and pots, and other environmental initiatives.

The direct participants (DP) of the PID number 13, including Flora Toscana sac, which also acts as lead partner. A further 15 entities participate indirectly in various capacities. Details of the DPs are as follows:

District Agreement
As with all integrated projects, an agreement among the various participants is envisaged. The District Agreement has a duration of 5 years from the decree approving the project (decree no. 8807 dated 09/06/2020).
Project notes
The project was approved on 09/06/2020 by Regional Executive Resolution no. 8807. During 2024, an extension was granted until 26/09/2024. By that date, all projects must be completed and reported through the Artea system. The final deadline for submission of the technical report on the completed PID by the lead partner is set for 28/10/2024.
